CO State Fair
Fluorescent lights, old-school rides, games, birria mac & cheese, smoked turkey legs, Indian tacos…
Pure joy on the mechanical bull. Teenage memories at the top of the Ferris wheel. The Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, CO… a time warp, maybe 20, 30 years back.
We attend Fiesta Days, a celebration dedicated to the Latino, Hispanic, Chicano, Native, and Mexican-American heritage of the state (and especially Southern Colorado).
Mariachis serenade the main strip, cumbia bumps through the sound system, folklórico dresses brighten the space, and the drums of Danza Azteca echo across the grounds.
Cold beers flow. Moms (and dads) push strollers. Kids splash through the fountain. Divers leap from the tallest diving board. Old heads (and some youngsters) rocking Dickies, Cotez’ and Ben Davis gear. Tribal tattoos carry family names. Vaqueros stand steady, boots dusted and sharp.
A day where time pauses (and rewinds). Take me to the State Fair!
